No, this isn't the first step in setting up an internet affiliate marketing business/campaign but it happens to be one that I played with while setting up my blog. I wanted to be sure that the name and title of my blog reflected what the content was going to be aimed at which would allow search engines to list it appropriately. Ranking was not my primary concern as I am not trying to optimize the blog in order to drive high volumes of people through here. I just wanted to be reasonably sure that if people were searching for specifically what I am talking about they would have a decent chance of getting here.
So, what is my blog about?
Well, internet for starters. Everything about this is going to be done over the internet. Affiliate programs, marketing and starting from the beginning... not after I had become successful. as that remains to be seen.
Internet Affiliate Marketing (from Scratch was an afterthought).
So off to Adwords free keyword tool (no sales here, just a free link) to see what sort of activity there is for my chosen phrase.
I went with the base blog title "internet affiliate marketing". Selecting the "phrase" option pulls the stats for searches based on the chosen words together, and in the order that I enter them. There are 3,600 global searches per month for that particular phrase and 18,100 for those three words in any order. Individually the phrase "affiliate marketing" has 301,000 global searches, the word "affiliate" alone has 1.83 Million global searches.
Interestingly there are well over 800,000 sites that show up with "internet affiliate marketing" in their content that is listed on the search engine for Google. Competition is fierce.
There are ways to use the Adwords tool in order to help to select a particular phrase that can target a particular audience that may be looking for a product that I might choose to promote. Otherwise known as niche marketing. Obviously competing with 800,000+ sites over 3,600 searches is not likely to produce many results. At least I am not blogging to try to capture that market.
Up next, back to the actual plan... I need to set up a couple of affiliate accounts so I can have something to promote, find and register with a hosting service, come up with some products to start promoting and get heavily into some SEO researching.
Sometimes just deciding what the very next step is is the hardest part.
Jeff.
